Let’s go fly a kite, send it soaring at Thailand’s International Kite Festival
“LET’S go fly a kite, up to the highest heights, let’s go fly a kite and send it soaring” sang Mr. Banks from Mary Poppins as he strolled to the park with his children.
Nobody can be sad while watching a colorful kite soaring high in the sky, waving to all the smiling faces below.
If you’re already grinning at the thought of swishing a kite into the air and pulling all the right strings to make it glide like a ballerina, then you won’t want to miss Thailand’s International Kite Festival.
This year, the festival is being held at the Army Non-Commissioned Officer School in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The International Kite Festival is set to be more colorful, vibrant and spectacular than any of its previous years.
Professional kite-flying teams are coming to take part from all over the world including Switzerland, Germany, and France.
Awe-inspired spectators can expect to see a vivid parade of giant kites. In the procession, there will be kites in the shapes of superheroes and cartoon characters as well the traditional kite shapes, cubes, triangles, and kite-birds.
What else can kite-cavorters experience at the festival?
Festival-goers can see incredible kite shows, including chula and Pak Pao show which is a display of unique Thai kites dancing around in the sky to Thai classical music, Pi Phat.
For those of you who want to get a bit more hands-on and give your necks a rest from staring up at the kite-filled skies, try your hand at Kite Art fun and Do-It-yourself activities.
Some of the activities include designing and making your own kite and learning how to carve your own boomerang and throw it in the traditional way so it returns to you.
When you need a break from flying high in the sky, head across to one of the many food trucks that will be dotted around the festival.
Refuel on traditional dishes from around the Hua Hin area while you listen to light music.
The festival is a perfect weekend activity for the whole family or perhaps for a spectacular first date that would be hard to top.
