Futuristic and sustainable: ECOS Hotel to open soon in Dubai
Dubai is set to open eight new luxury hotels this year, including W The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, Grand Millennium, Business Bay and Emerald Palace Kempinski.
But perhaps one of the most exciting and forward-thinking properties expected to open in the near future is the budget-conscious, eco-friendly ECOS Hotel planned for Dubai’s Al Furjan area.
The hotel has been designed for the “new world” where travelers are lending a thought to their carbon footprint.
Operating as part of the Hospitality Management Holding (HMH) group, which also runs Coral Dubai Deira Hotel, the property is pitching itself as an environmentally responsible budget hotel.
Although it seeks to provide eco-efficient, budget accommodation to the economical traveler, it doesn’t skimp on sleek architecture and hi-tech amenities.
“The new property being developed in the UAE will be the first ECOS in our portfolio, marking the debut of our eco-conscious practices in the hospitality sector,” said Brett Schafer, CEO of Faisal Holding, which owns HMH.
“We are confident that with HMH’s hospitality expertise, the new ECOS will make for a competitive new attraction and prove to be a very important asset for HMH and the communities in which we operate.”
“Futuristic and funky,” ECOS hotels can be built using either modular or traditional construction methods.
Modular construction methods usually mean better sound insulation, increased energy efficiency, lower carbon emission output and are twice as fast to build compared to brick and mortar hotels.
They can also be built in harder-to-reach places, so perhaps HMH has some adventure hotels on the horizon.
For now, however, Dubai will be welcoming the new 320-room ECOS hotel with aims to go paperless and become self-sustainable in terms of water and electricity soon after it opens. Construction is expected to begin within the next three months.
The hotel is also seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and planning to install solar panels.
