A tour of the Amazon River in Singapore? Huh?

Singapore

South America’s Amazon River is one of Mother Nature’s most incredible feats of engineering.

Its sheer volume of water makes it the largest in the world and second longest after Africa’s River Nile.

The 6,400-kilometer river travels through the Andes Mountains, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela.

To sail the river would take around 550 hours or the equivalent of 22 days, but Singapore has just opened a new attraction which sails it in just 10 minutes.

River Safari in Singapore is Asia’s only river-themed zoo, nestled between the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari.

The park offers visitors the chance to meet, feed and learn about Amazonian wildlife.

The Amazon River Quest (ARQ) simulates a tour of the world’s largest river from the comfort of a boat.

Visitors needn’t worry about alligators biting at the hull here though, because there are none on the boat ride. Instead, the river safari passes through different zones where some of South America’s most incredible animals live.

Pass the Brazilian amphibious tapir that is almost always found near water, gaze at the giant anteater and try to spot the majestic jaguar hiding in the lush plants.

The 1584-meter humanmade river is also home to spider monkeys, maned wolds, guanaco, and flamingos.

While the park doesn’t have a patch on the magnificence of the Amazon River, it does a sterling job to preserve these species and give visitors a glance at the diversity across the globe.

Singapore is run and managed by Wildlife Reserves Singapore, the group that also runs the Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park, and Night Safari.

All the animals in these parks have been born into captivity and never stolen from the wild.

The Singapore Zoo and its sister brands have been voted as some of the world’s best animals attractions in multiple awards, including Trip Advisor’s Traveler’s Choice 2017.

It’s one of the only zoos to be 100 percent cage-free and invests huge amounts of money in wildlife conservation and protection.

With Singapore school holidays just around the corner, this is the perfect expedition to take your young adventurers on.
